Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and render the bacon pieces until crispy, then drain on paper towels
Heat a heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat and add the oil. Heat until the oil just begins to shimmer
Add the popcorn kernels in an even layer in the oil, then sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top
Cover with a lid, leaving a crack for steam to vent, shaking occasionally until the kernels begin to pop
Once the popcorn begins popping in earnest, shake constantly
When the popping slows to 1 kernel per second, remove and dump immediately into a large bowl
Add the rendered bacon and peanuts, and toss to combine
Serve immediately, or allow to cool to room temperature and store for up to 2 days in an airtight container
